Giving

Why We Give

The Journey encourages members and regular attenders to follow the Biblical model of giving cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:7). Giving financially to the work of the local church out of our “firstfruits” is both a renunciation of greed as an idol and an expression that all that we have is given to us by God and is to be used for his purposes (Matthew 25:14-30). It is an expression of worship for all that God has done in our midst.

Ways To Give

We encourage you to give cheerfully, regularly and sacrificially to the many ministries and mission of the church.  Financial contributions to The Journey can occur in many different ways, including:

1) Placing gifts in offering baskets during each worship service
We invite you to regularly participate in giving as an important part of our worship services, as we honor God with the first portions of all our wealth (Proverbs. 3:9). Envelopes are provided at Connection Point for anyone who wishes to donate cash during weekly services.

2) Mailing contributions to the church office
If mailing your contribution is more convenient, send it to the Hanley Road Campus in care of our Director of Finance (Pete Weseloh) at the address specified below.

3) Giving online via direct debit from bank account or credit card
The Journey encourages online giving via the direct debit method from a checking or savings account as it saves us on fees and allows more of your money to go directly to support the ministry. You can use this to set up one time or recurring transactions. We also allow giving via credit cards like Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. However, we encourage you not to use credit cards unless you plan to pay off your card in full each month as we do not want to contribute to anyone else going further into debt to fund the ministries of The Journey

4) Stock and Asset Donations
Donating stock or other assets that have appreciated in value may provide potential tax benefits. When you give appreciated assets like stock—rather than just cash—to 501©(3) not-for-profit organizations like The Journey, you are generally exempt from paying capital gains tax. It’s a good way to store up treasure in heaven, while also maximizing the resources entrusted to us while on the earth. If you’d like to donate stock to The Journey, please contact Pete Weseloh, The Journey’s Director of Finance, at 314.863.8448 X 103 or by email.

Consult with your financial planner or tax adviser before making a stock donation to The Journey, to determine how/if the potential tax advantages described here apply to your specific situation.
