History

The Journey started as what Darrin Patrick has often called "Church of the Mind." It only existed between his ears. For over six years, he and his wife Amie dreamed, and crafted the nuts and bolts of what would become The Journey core values and beliefs-how it would work and what it would look like. Still, in 2001 when the Patrick family moved to St. Louis, the burden on their hearts was, "God, how will this work? What do you want this to look like?" And God answered. After months of forming a core team and meeting in a basement in South City, The Journey launched.

On September 22, The Journey held its first corporate worship service in the Clayton Community Center. There, God showed us the culture we were to build, how we were to reach the people of this city.

In the second year, our offices and services moved to their current location at Hanley Road Baptist Church. By 2005, The Journey had three and sometimes four services at Hanley Road. With growth squeezing our space, the leadership was again asking God, "What is this supposed to look like? What do we do?"

In 2006, God provided The Holy Innocence Catholic Church on Kingshighway across from Tower Grove Park. In the year since we added that location, we've added a third campus in West County, as well as sending out two of our own elders to plant churches in St. Charles and the Metro East.

Over the last five years, God has provided so much for The Journey, and we have been blessed to see hearts learning to love Jesus. And in all this, the prayer of this church is still the same: "Father, this is your church. Show us what you want it to be."
