Weekend Team
The Weekend Team exists to provide custodial care over the Tower Grove sanctuary building and entrance areas.
Responsibilities
As the Director of Spiritual Development I serve on the
Community Leadership Team and effectively lead Journey attenders to take the
necessary steps from church attendance to mature membership. I oversee the following areas: Gospel Class, Membership, Divine Design, and the Deacon Ministry.
Family
I am married to a wonderful young woman named Tiffany and we have two beautiful daughters: our sweet energetic 3 1/2 year-old daughter McKenzie and our newest edition, born October 25, 2007, Eliza. I am the youngest of three children.
What The Journey Has Meant To You
The Journey has been a healing salve for us. We've been here for a relatively short-time but have faced some difficult circumstances during that time. The staff and our new friends have shown us a tremendous measure of the love of Christ. We are being challenged vertically (relationship with God) and horizontally (relationship with others) and growing in Christ. We deeply appreciate The Journey's passion for the lost and desire to be a church for the city. For us, being in a church whose desire is to speak the truth in love to a culture in need of redemption is an amazing blessing.
Quote Or Advice
"Dawn, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. But this is the work that I have to do. Tell Giles, tell Giles I figured it out. And, and I'm okay. And give my love to my friends. You have to take care of them now. You have to take care of each other. You have to be strong. Dawn, the hardest thing in this world is to live in it. Be brave. Live. For me." -Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 5, "The Gift"
Favorite Reads Or Films
Books:
"Books, Jerry, books." I haven't read for fun since I
started seminary 6 years ago. I've read a lot of great books while at
Covenant. Children of the Living God and The Holy Spirit by Sinclair Ferguson. (Yes, Presbyterians do believe in the Holy Spirit.) Objects of His Affection by Scotty Smith. No Other God: A Response to Open Theism
by John Frame (sounds a little dry but it is a great book). Anything by
John Stott and anything from Francis Schaeffer. I also enjoy Tolkien
and Lewis. I have many other favorites. I like to loan out books from
the library so if you ever need anything, just ask.
Films:
Between Two Worlds, Moulin Rouge, Memento, Magnolia, Mystic River. I apparently love movies that start with the letter M. I love Elf, Big, Goonies, It's a Wonderful Life, Independence Day, Run, Lola, Run, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Godfather, Donnie Brasco, Heat, The Usual Suspects, and many, many more.
What You Enjoy
My daughter's laugh, my wife, Cardinals baseball, football, golf, good film and television, writing, reading books about theology and philosophy, the beauty of God's creation, pizza from the Blackthorn, family and friends. (These are not official rankings. I actually enjoy my family and friends more than Blackthorn pizza. Most of the time.)
Where You Grew Up And What You Did As A Kid
I grew up in a little town called Bourbon, Missouri. Yes, Bourbon, like the whiskey. As a kid I got beat up a lot by my teenage brother. As a kid I loved to play baseball, football, and basketball. I fished a lot with my dad and grandpa. My brother and I had many adventures in the woods behind our house. I was outside most of the time, but had many great moments playing Atari and conquering Zelda and Metroid with my brother. Nerf was a big part of my life as well.
Hope For The Journey
"And he who was seated on the throne said, 'Behold, I am making all things new.'" The redemption that comes through Christ is marching forward all over the world. God is daily sanctifying us and revealing more and more of His glory to us. It is my hope that we at The Journey will long to see the redemption of God manifested in our lives, in our families, in our communities and in our city. My hope is that as we are daily conformed to the likeness of Christ individually, that we will be a blessing to the world corporately. Paul says it much better then I ever could in 2 Corinthians 2:14-16, "But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?" May our triune God make us equal to this task.
Yada, Yada, Yada
I love rollercoasters. Ask me about my trip to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio and you will soon be convinced that if there is one thing you must do in this life it is to go to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. It's America's Roller Coast. I love words. I love chicken wings. I love to think big thoughts and dream big dreams. I've lived in Colorado and North Carolina. I miss the ocean and the mountains. I know street slang.
