Weekend Team
The Weekend Team exists to provide custodial care over the Tower Grove sanctuary building and entrance areas.
Responsibilities
I manage an amazing team in the Publications Dept. at The Journey. Ashley Cade is the Content Manager and Ryan Stanley is our Lead Designer. I have the privilege of handling all project requests for our ministry leaders. Our goal is to ensure that all web design and print projects are done in a timely manner and are authentic in Journey culture and of course done with excellence.
Family
I have been married over half of my life to Rusty! We met and married as teenagers and have truly grown up together. We have three very special children (Kelley, David and Jesse) who are still writing their story and I am "Mimi" to Kelton (7), Adalena (4) and Ava (3 months).
What the Journey Has Meant To You
Truth, Community, Mission, Worship, Beauty - sound familiar? After being a Christian for 35years, The Journey has allowed me to experience the true meaning of the Gospel and Grace. I have also enjoyed the fulfillment of being a surrogate mom and grandma to many new friends and children.
Quote or Advice
"Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality." Romans 12: 9-13
"I will this day try to live a simple, sincere and serene life, repelling promptly every thought of discontent, anxiety, discouragement, impurity and self seeking; cultivating cheerfulness, magnanimity, charity and the habit of help and silence; exercising economy in expenditure, carefulness in conversation, fidelity to every trust and a childlike faith in God." Bishop Vincent
What You Enjoy
I love entertaining at our home! Party time! I am passionate about helping others achieve their dreams and goals. Laugh and scream out loud rides on a tube behind a boat; watching movies with my "babies" while snuggled in bed, sitting on our deck in our porch swing or wrapped in a blanket around a fire being amazed at the stars in the sky.
Being spontaneous! The opportunity to travel, especially my trips to Kosovo, Sri Lanka, and New Orleans on disaster relief trips where I had the privilege to do hard physical labor and demonstrate God's love in action to those people who have experienced such great loss. The "empty nest" with my husband!
Where You Grew Up and What You Did As a Kid
First of all, that was over 50 years ago...and I can't remember; and truthfully I haven't grown up. I still love to have fun and the challenge of staying young at heart. A proud moment in my life was climbing Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale, AZ on my 50th birthday with some girlfriends who were 10 years younger than me.
Favorite Reads or Films
Reads:
The Adventure Divas by Holly Morris. The story of a woman in her 40's who gave herself permission to do something new, wild and full of adventure by "searching the globe for a new kind of heroine" She traveled the world to find stories of "older" women who have made a difference in the world.
Come Back Barbara by C. John Miller and Barbara Miller Juliani. A book of restoration between a wayward daughter and her parents; told by both sides. I was finally able to see the importance of "owning my own sin"!
Spiritual Leadership by J.Oswald Sanders. "Ambition that centers on the glory of God and welfare of the church is a mighty force for good."
Freedom Writers Journal by Freedom Writers and Zlata Filipovichow. The number of "one" can make such a difference.
E-Myth Mastery by Michael E. Gerber. Great book on how to run a business.
Films: I am a lover of any chic flick! I abhor the least bit violence in films!
Hope for The Journey
Honestly, it's a simple as please, please "keep it real". Continue to offer a place of refuge where people can come "just as they are" and feel loved and accepted through community and know that through the grace of God "he still uses us inspite of us".
Yada, Yada, Yada
"I am a recovering Pharisee" and I love to pray in my "heavenly language"!
