Questions

  • What is your favorite bible verse?
"And you, who were dead in your trespasses and uncircumcison of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him." Colossians 2:13-15 I love this text as it reminds me of where I was before Jesus saved me. It declares that Jesus is a mighty king who triumphs over every one of his enemies. And it ties this victory over his enemies to the historical event of his brutal death on the cross. I also love Revelation 19:11-16 that gives us a cue of what the resurrected Messiah is going to look like when we see him. Not the Jesus I heard about growing up, that for sure.
  • What is following Jesus like these days?
You know those psalms that David starts out like "I love you Lord and would do any and everything for you because of how great you are" and then like 4 verses later he is crying out "WHERE ARE YOU". Kind of like that. I find it more easy and more difficult to follow Jesus the longer I am a Christian. More easy because of the power the Gospel has to enable obedience. More difficult because by nature I am a fighter and think things needs to be harder than they are.
  • How long have you been at The Journey?
    Since September 2008.
  • What ministry are you involved in?
My job throughout the week that the church pays me to do is to oversee all things financial at The Journey. All giving, budgeting, spending, etc. Melissa and I are Community Group leaders and also help with Journey Kids.
  • What is hard and/or good about serving at The Journey?
"I love serving at The Journey because I know that I get to play a small part in what appears to be a movement of God going on right now through many organizations including Acts 29, the Church Planting network we are a part of. In movements more people meet Jesus, more people see Him change their lives, and more people see and taste the benefits of His death and resurrection. Nothing like being apart of a team and church being used by God to do that. The hard part about serving at The Journey is also the great part. This is a place where our sin is not swept under the rug and is confronted in love. We have a definite Gospel centered confrontation culture where issues are dealt with straight on and quickly.
